1. Name and Address

This club shall be called "The Walking Club". It will be based at the address of one of the committee members as published in Walking Club literature.

2. Purpose

The purpose of the Club is to provide the opportunity for its members to participate in walks and other social activities.

3. Membership

Membership shall be divided as follows:

  1. Full Membership.
  2. There are two types of full membership:
  3. Waged:– in full or part–time employment exceeding 16 hours per week.
  4. Unwaged:– either unemployed or working part–time for less than 16 hours per week.
  5. A Full Member is entitled to stand for election to the Committee and has one vote at General Meetings.
  6. Family Membership.
  7. Two adults and children residing at the same address. One adult member of each family group will be regarded as a Full Member for voting purposes. Subscription rates refer to families with two children.
  8. Honorary Membership.
  9. Honorary Members have performed a good service to the club. They pay no subscriptions. They have full voting rights. Honorary Membership can only be awarded/withdrawn at a General Meeting.

4. Fees

Fees will take the form of a one off joining fee, followed by four quarterly standing order or one annual subscription(s). The committee will advise on any subscription rates not specified.

5. Club Officials

The Club will be run by a committee comprising the following club officials:

  1. Chairman
  2. Secretary
  3. Treasurer
  4. PR Representative
  5. Transport Co–ordinator
  6. Route Planner
  7. Special Events Co–ordinator
  8. Editor
  9. Membership Secretary

Each position will be elected at an Annual General Meeting or Extraordinary General Meeting. Members can hold one or more post. The Committee may co–opt any club member onto the Committee for a specific purpose.

6. Behaviour of Members

All members must at all times follow the countryside and walkers codes. Members must be suitably equipped as defined by the Committee, requirements placed on the Club by its insurers and legal requirements. Failure to do so will result in the walk organisers asking members not to walk.

The Committee can discipline a member who breaks the rules or who brings the Club into general disrepute.

7. Meetings

The Annual General Meeting will be held in April. One months notice will be given to all members. The Committee or a group of a minimum of six members can call an Extraordinary General Meeting at one weeks notice.

No meeting shall be in quorum unless at least 30% of the members are present. (This figure includes any members voting by proxy).

The Chairperson has the casting vote at General and Committee Meetings.

8. Amending the Rules

Rules can be amended at a General Meeting providing members are notified of the intention to do so at the same time as they are notified of the meeting.

9. Dissolving the Club

A resolution to dissolve the Club can be proposed for consideration at any General Meeting. If the resolution is passed, all debts shall be settled by the Treasurer and any surplus funds are to be donated to a local charity to be decided at the meeting. Any equipment that belongs to the Club and which can not be sold to members shall be donated to charity.
