Burbage Rocks and Padley Gorge

Sunday 11th July 2021

We arrived to the sight of 3 deer in the field next to our start point car park on the edge of the Longshaw Estate, an amazing sight – and so close to us humans!

James, Dirrell and Ray had wild camped overnight – and were surprisingly perky at 09:30. Alexandra had also arrived the previous day, but enjoyed slightly more comfortable accommodation! Unfortunately, Paul, our walk leader, had a puncture enroute – but thankfully between James and Roger we managed to have both a paper copy of our route and an OS Maps download on our phones – so we could set off!

We followed the route through the Longshaw Estate – and then onto a spectacular walk along the top of Burbage Rocks and up to the very distinctive Higger Tor – the Peak District's very own imitation of a Table Mountain. We followed Padley Gorge down to Grindleford Station and reminisced over past breakfasts here before making an arduous ascent back up to the car park we started from. The deer had well gone by now.
