Having left a bright and sunny England, we arrived to a dull and rainy France – but this was not a sign of things to come. After picking up the hire car, we began our journey to Roger’s place, in the Lot region of the Dordogne near St–Cere. After our arrival, (and a well received cup of tea) Roger took us on a little tour around St–Cere, pointing out some of the fascinating medieval and turreted buildings and ancient houses and we enjoyed our first beer, sitting outside, at a local bar. Back at the house, we saw the local Madam (Roger’s 92 year old neighbour) collecting the fallen walnuts on her land. Harvested in large quantities, Dordogne is the 2nd largest producer of walnuts in France after Isere.
